Improving flow analysis product line to meet customers' diverse needs - Interview with Li Yingwei, General Manager of Baode Instruments

Flow injection analyzer is an efficient, fast, and automated analytical instrument that can perform high-precision and high-sensitivity detection on a large number of samples in a short time. In the past, due to the technological and quality advantages of foreign products, the price of flow injection analyzers has remained high. However, with the continuous development of domestic scientific instrument, domestic flow injection analyzers have gradually emerged and occupied a place in the fierce scientific instrument market.

As a leading enterprise in the domestic flow injection analysis industry, Beijing Baode Instrument Co., Ltd. (referred to as "Baode ") is about to enter a milestone of ten years since its establishment in 2015. What significant achievements has Baode made in the past decade? How will it plan its development strategy for the next decade in the face of the future? With these questions in mind, the editor of Instrument Information Network had in-depth discussions with Li Yingwei, general manager of Baode.

Instrument Information Network: Which product would you like to introduce at this exhibition? What innovative technologies have been adopted? What is its most suitable application ? Could you please share how this product empowers users to solve scientific problems? You can give 1-2 specific cases.

BDCFA-800 Automatic Continuous Flow Analyzer

Li Yingwei: As we all know ,  Baode has a high market share in the flow injection analyzer market. At the same time, we have been committed to making up for technological shortcomings and improving product line. There are mainly two types of flow analysis techniques: CFA steady-state continuous flow analysis technique and FIA unsteady flow injection analysis technique. After our research, based on the standard requirements and user needs of many industries such as ocean monitoring, agriculture, forestry, water, and tobacco, CFA occupies a large proportion in scale detection. In the third quarter of this year, our R&D team developed BDCFA-800 automatic continuous flow analyzer successfully, which is developed and produced by Baode independently and adopts the principle of bubble interval continuous flow analysis. It can detect total phosphorus, total nitrogen, phosphate, nitrate nitrogen, nitrite nitrogen, ammonia nitrogen, total cyanide, cyanide, anionic detergent, volatile phenol and other items quantitatively in water samples.

BSA-100C Liquid Chromatography Atomic Fluorescence Spectrometer

Due to the different forms of the same element having different chemical and toxicological properties, the analysis and determination of the total amount of elements can no longer meet the detection needs of various fields such as food and environment. The liquid chromatography atomic fluorescence spectrometer developed by Baode can analyze qualitatively and quantitatively the chemical forms ( arsenic form, mercury form, selenium form, antimony form, etc.) and their contents of trace heavy metal elements in samples. When analyzing the valence and form of inorganic arsenic in food, the Grain Science Institute failed to achieve the expected detection limit with various instruments. Later, they used our company's BSA-100C liquid chromatography atomic fluorescence spectrometer for experiments, and the experimental results showed excellent performance, perfectly meeting the detection limit requirements. Therefore, they purchased the instrument. The BSA-100C model adopts a tilted optical path design, which has the advantage of low background and high signal. Compared with traditional optical paths, the sensitivity is increased by about 30%, improving the stability and detection limit of the instrument greatly.

In addition, we also bring multiple products such as BASE-30 Automatic Solvent Extractor (multi-channel), BDHg-60 direct injection mercury analyzer, BCODMn-60S Automatic Analyzer of Permanganate Index, etc.

Instrument Information Network: As a leading enterprise in domestic flow injection analyzers, what is your evaluation of the current development level and market maturity of flow analysis technology, and what are your future market expectations?

Li Yingwei: As a promoter of domestic flow injection instruments, we will continue to advance in this field. Except for laboratory instruments, for example, we have launched on-site portable flow injection analyzers, On-board Automatic Flow Injection Analyzer, online analyzers and so on.

Looking ahead to the future, flow injection technology will undergo a comprehensive upgrade towards standardization, automation, and intelligence. We are committed to optimizing the two core technologies of FIA and CFA to meet the diverse sample analysis needs of different environments, industries, and standards. At present, the domestic technological level has fully possessed the ability to achieve domestic substitution, and has made breakthroughs in multiple technical difficulties. For example, it has successfully solved the problem of traditional flow injection refrigeration relying on condensed water or ice water through semiconductor technology, demonstrating China's outstanding strength in the field of micro component manufacturing. I believe that with the continuous advancement of technology and the expansion of new application areas, the market prospects of flow injection analyzers will become even broader!

Instrument Information Network: Next year will also be Baode 's 10th anniversary. Over the past decade, the company has been committed to independent research and development of scientific instruments in China. Entering into a new stage, What is the overall development strategy plan for the company? What are the vision goals?

Li Yingwei: Baode was established in 2015, committed to safeguarding the safety of food nutrition sources and environmental protection. We have always aspired to become a unique high-end analytical instrument manufacturer in China, providing accurate and efficient analytical tools for laboratories and helping scientific research progress.

At present, our product line covers five categories and has more than 30 independently developed instruments, mainly focusing on water quality, soil, food, and agricultural product testing. In future, we will deploy a series of water quality analysis instruments comprehensively, including dissolved total solids, automatic biochemical oxygen demand and hardness analyzers. After achieving success in the field of water quality analysis, we will expand to areas such as nutritional analysis and on-site emergency analysis, and explore technologies such as online environmental monitoring and smart laboratories. We expect to launch two innovative instruments in May next year.

Instrument Information Network: Which experience was the most unforgettable in your cooperation with Instrument Information Network? What are your expectations on the occasion of its 25th anniversary?

Li Yingwei: Since its establishment in 2015, Baode has become a member of the Instrument Information Network since launching its products in 2017. Over the years, what has left a deep impression on me is that you provided us with numerous valuable opportunities from the beginning of our entrepreneurship, providing us with great help in customer resources, information transmission and market research.

I hope that Instrument Information Network can continue to accompany the growth of Chinese enterprises, jointly cultivate and develop more high-end and mid-to-high-end analytical instruments with independent intellectual property rights.
